What is EECP/ECP
EECP is a non-invasive treatment which employs electrocardiogram-gated sequential inflation of cuffs wrapped around calves, thighs and buttocks, which inflate and deflate during the cardiac cycle. It improves organ ischemia through a series of protective mechanisms. EECP was first introduced in the treatment of angina, and was subsequently applied in various conditions including heart failure, ischemic cerebral vascular diseases and so on, with documented evidence of benefits. Improvements in diabetes, ischemic eye diseases, sudden hearing loss, male erectile dysfunction, sleep disorders, etc have also been reported. As a safe, non-invasive and effective treatment, EECP has attracted interest from geriatricians who care for elderly with multiple co-morbidities.

Currently, EECP Therapy has been approved for national coverage by the hospitals for Medicare and under the guidelines as a non-pharmacologic outpatient treatment for patients with chronic stable angina symptons including chest pain, atypiccal pain, shortness of breath, fatigue and cough. EECP is also commonly used for treatment of patients with heart failure.
